arja Arja estimated emerge in the year 1820, at a period of governance of king I Dewa Agung Sakti. Three important phase in Arja growth is:

appearance of Arja Doyong ( Arja without accompaniment gamelan, played by one people).
Arja Gaguntangan ( using gamelan Gaguntangan with the perpetrator amount more than one people ).
Arja Gede ( brought by between 10 until 15 perpetrator with the permanent show structure such as those which exist now )

Ordinary Gamelan weared to accompany the Arja called Gaguntangan with gentle voice and dulcet so that can add the beauty of the worship song bounced by all dancer.

The main Source act of Arja is Panji story ( Malat), then born a number of story like Bandasura, Pakang Raras, Linggar Check, I Godogan, Create The Kelangen, Made Umbara, Cilinaya And Dempu Awang recognized widely by society.

Arja also present the acts from folklore like Jayaprana, Sampik Ingtai, Basur And Cupak Grantang and also some act lifted from story of Mahabharata and Ramayana. Any act brought by Arja always present the especial figure covering; Inya, Galuh, Desak (Desak Rai), Limbur, Liku, Panasar, Mantri Manis, Mantri Buduh and two tide of punakawan or Panasar brothers which each consisted by the Punta and Kartala. Most of all area in Bali still own the Arja groups which still be active till date.

Before the ending of XX century born Arja Muani, its player all man, some of them are playing as a woman. This Arja is greeted enthusiastic considerably by society because, attending fresh comedy.
