North Bali

The north coast is starting to attract a number of visitors, who come for the secluded seaside accomodation and excellent, accessible diving and snorkeling. If you are looking for a hidden paradise, the north coast of Bali can be the perfect choice.
The small and friendly lakeside resort of Bedugul is located in the middle of the central highlands, an hour drive north of Bali’s Capital, Denpasar. Located along the main road to Singaraja on Bali’s north coast, surrounded by scenic terraced vegetables garden, the area has unsurpassed views, cool temperatures and wonderful markets selling delicious citrus, passion fruit, and other exotic fruits. Placid Lake Bratan fills the ancient crater of the long inactive Mount Catur that towers above the lake. The layers of mist, the fleecy clouds and peaceful Ulun Danu Temple lying in the lake’s shallow waters lend a mystical quality to the environment.

The old Dutch capital of Bali during the colonial era, Singaraja is a quiet town with quaint old Dutch warehouses on the waterfront. It can be easily reached from the south via Bedugul or Kintamani or from Candidasa in the east. The town has plenty of accomodation from basic to good quality and some adequate restaurants.
There’s little nightlife to speak of, so you can try to rise early in the morning and hire a fisherman to take you out to see dolphins and a beautiful sunrise at the same time. The fisherman will also take you to the reef for snorkeling or diving. It’s a pleasant rural area with mountains and foothills coming down to the sea.
